for those smaller gigs....
Faux VOX Replica Project

___The inspiration for this project came from what I had read about the VOX guys "winging it" - assemblying and desiging for the need of the situation. I couldn't wait any longer for someone else (VOX wake up!) to meet my wants (strong visual statement) and needs (lots of power).

___The head cabinet came from an old VOX Buckingham. It was slightly modified to house the narrower (17.5") Gallien-Krueger 700RB Bi-Amp 2-space head. Miraculously the depth (or height in this configuration) fit exactly! One could also put in a GK 400RB-III or 1001RB head. No need for the front vents on the original head cabinet. Therefor, additional reinforcement was put in place. About 2/3 of the interior front is airspace. All connectors on the GK were moved to be accessible from the back (see pictures).

___Eminence Delta 12LFA Bass Guitar Speaker. This high-power speaker (300W) with extended Xmax is designed for smaller cabinets. With the proper porting these cabinets will reproduce 45Hz - 3,000Hz +/-3dB and handle 600 watts at 8 ohms.

___A custom/altered horn (small cut-out on the AC-50 small cabinet baffle board) is fitted with a Motorola Mid-Range Horn Driver (KSN1188C). high-power (400W), 800Hz - 20,000Hz.

___I incorporated an AC-30 Extension Cabinet & AC-50 Small Cabinet, both reproductions from North Coast Music. Two 12s in each cabinet (horn in the AC-50 only) mounted easily. I constructed two closed-back panels to seal each of the cabinets. Ported each cabinet according to the WinISD speaker cabinet design program. Installed Speakon connectors - the best especially for bi-amp applications. Then wired each cabinet for 16 ohms - that way if both cabinets are used the load will be 8 ohms (GK recommends no lower than a 4 ohm load).

___The head cabinet and speaker enclosures covered with "H" pattern vinyl and brown diamond grill cloth.

___The two cabinets and head stand as tall as a Super Beatle (52"). However, this configuration is much easier to transport and one or two cabinets may be utilized depending on the need. This rig is a head-turner!
